We are very pleased to offer this pre-1943 Tin Plate version of the Dietz Little Wizard lantern. Like its ancestors of over 65 years ago, it has a low frame, which reduces size and weight for more conventient handling, and a short globe that was "modern" in 1914 when it was introduced.
HISTORY:
Up to 1943, unpainted bright tin plate was the standard finish for most tubular lanterns. In 1943, material shortages brought on by World War II necesitated the substitution of terne plate, which had a less attractive and less rust resistant finish. It was quickly realized that the terne plate lanterns would require painting, not only to make them more attractive, but to prevent rust as well. Up to 1949, machine gray enamel was used for the task before blue became the standard finish for all Dietz lanterns.
